CHICHESTER PRIORY PARK CC WON BY 23 RUNS IN THE PARK
Chichester Priory Park CC - 3rd XI 163 / All out (39.5) v Slinfold CC - 2nd XI 140 / All out (35.4)
The 3’s welcomed Slinfold to the Park for the final game of the season. A strong line up on paper although missing the illustrious leader Jes Goode whose run scoring proficiency was required by the 2’s.
The wicket was a wet one, resembling a late April offering rather than what we have experienced all year.
Slinfold won the toss and duly elected to bowl which was an obvious choice. Some late arrivals meant some juggling at the top of the order, with Fred Huggett and Elliott Goode opening up. They were given instruction to bat for 10 overs which they duly did. 4 wickets fell quickly on what was clearly a stodgy wicket with shot making extremely difficult against some good, tight bowling.
Max Cripps joined Stuart Gillett at 17-4 and they worked hard to combat the pitch and tight bowling. They took the score to 100 when Cripps was out for an excellent 47. Ben Barnes and Jamie Edwards contributed some quick runs with Gillett who finished on 52, an out of character patient knock which provided the backbone to what was a competitive total of 163.
The bowling effort started well against some aggressive batting, not what was needed on the pitch but allowed us to set fields accordingly. Dan Brown picked up the first wicket and then we turned to spin which was the order of the day. Huggett (1 for 28 off 7) Cripps (1 for 19 off 5) and Willem Hodgson (2 for 23 off 6 bowling spin rather than pace, a great effort) - these overs got us into the game and George Hopkirk and Jamie Edwards mopped up the tail nicely. Jamie taking the final wicket with a perfect slower ball finishing with 3 for 9 off his 2.4 overs, a fitting end as looks like he will be away in Canada next year on his gap year.
A great end to the season with some real momentum gathered in the second half of the season.
