Chichester and MCC play out their biannual match

Chichester Priory Park CC XI 137 / All out (32.2) v MCC Friendly XI 199 / 8 (40)

Chichester won the toss and elected to bat.

Chichester and MCC played out their biannual match, breaking with tradition and playing at Goodwood.

In the warm sunshine of Goodwood MCC set a what appeared to be a moderate total of 199 in the allotted 40 overs, however Chichester could never get on top of the MCC bowlers, who skittle out the home side for 137.

Batting First MCC with Shepperton and Collins set a solid foundation 43 and 55 respectively. After the stand was broken no other batter really got going and Chichester were happy to restrict MCC to 199 from 40 overs.

Toft, Scott and Heaven each picking up a brace of wickets.

A splendid tea was had by all during the break with Chichester confident in challenging the target.

Optimism was short lived as wickets started to tumble with 3 overs and from that point no real resistance was offered, other than Goode and Scott making starts but not being able to move on.

MCC’s Joseph ended as pick of the visitors’ bowlers with 3 wickets for 14 runs.

As ever great to catch up with our MCC friends is the glorious surroundings of Goodwood and we look forward to the next time.
