Chichester Priory Park 1XI Secure Seven-Wicket Victory

Chichester Priory Park produced an excellent all-round performance to chase down 163 and secure a convincing seven-wicket victory.

Put into bat first, the opposition struggled to build a substantial total as the Priory Park bowling attack kept the pressure on throughout the innings.

There were useful contributions with the bat, with P Osborne top-scoring with 38, while T Alexander added 32 and A Barr 24.

A superb response with the bat Chasing 163, Priory Park made a steady start but lost T Toft for 13 and T Wergan for 21, leaving the score at 48/2.

That brought together S Hasted and E Stead, who completely took control of the chase.

Hasted played a superb innings, striking 62 from 76 balls, including 12 boundaries, while Stead was equally impressive, finishing unbeaten on 58 from just 55 balls, with eight fours and two sixes.

The pair put on a match-winning partnership, taking the score from 48/2 through to 155 before Hasted was dismissed for his excellent 62.

With just eight runs required, Stead remained at the crease to see the job through, with O Harris unbeaten on 0, as Priory Park reached 163/3 from 29.

Chichester Priory Park 2nd XI produced a fine run chase to defeat Arundel 1st XI by four wickets, reaching a testing target of 234 with 14 balls to spare.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Priory made a dream start through Tom Symington.

Finlay Rustell then bowled Ashley Field for 15 to reduce the hosts to 79 for 4, but James Essex and David Glanvill launched an impressive recovery.

James Mayne eventually removed Glanvill before Rustell denied Essex a deserved century.

Symington finished with 3 for 49, while Rustell was the pick of the attack with an excellent 3 for 36 from his eight overs.

Priory’s reply began badly when Jes Goode fell in the opening over without scoring, but Matthew Croker (43) and Rehan Meiring steadied the innings with a 41-run partnership.

Two wickets with the score on 95 left Priory wobbling at 95 for 4, but Ollie Greenlees and Matthew Sharpe rebuilt with a crucial 70-run partnership.

Sharpe played the anchor role superbly, making 48 from 61 balls, while Heaven launched the decisive counterattack.

Sharpe fell with just three runs needed, but Symington arrived and immediately struck his first delivery for four to seal victory at 235 for 6 in 37.

It was a composed and well-paced chase, built on useful contributions throughout the order before Heaven’s explosive finish secured the full 30 points.

Chi 3’s returned to the Park with a win against Southwater 2’s.

Jes Goode had been moved up to the 2’s so skippering duties fell to Stuart Gillett.

Chichester opened up with Saqib Khushnood and Oscar Dutton, a tight opening few overs was disrupted with the left-hand opening bat going on the front foot and being very aggressive from the first ball, a flurry of boundaries and some ‘swing harder’ moments followed before he top edged one into the safe hands of Elliot Goode.

A similar approach was adopted by the number three and some astute field placing blocked his scoring zones and led to Rupert Gillett bowling him with classic off spinners delivery, wickets came at regular intervals however a good stand between the accomplished number three and another put Southwater in a good position however Dutton returned to claim a very well deserved 5fer, his first for the club and Southwater were bold out for 195.

Chichester set about the chase cautiously with Burrows and Lewis up top.

Some steady opening overs ensued until Burrows missed straight one and Hubbard joined Lewis who took the score on to 131 with Hubbard in particular playing some nice aggressive shots to spread the field.

A couple of injuries ensued for Southwater who fielded with 9 for a short time and the ice pack stock at the park was diminished by the Southwater team and Chichester were cruising.

However, the captains words of batting sensibly were not adhered to, not for the first time!

A flurry of wickets, 4 for 26, left Gillett Senior and Hanif Shakoori to steady the ship and Shakoori plundered a number of boundaries including a glorious 6 towards the end and Chichester got home relatively comfortably despite the slight wobble in the middle order.

A great results from a great team with strong performances across the board.

Tough day for Chi 4XI at Bognor

Chichester 4s visited Bognor Regis 3s at West Meads on Ssturday.
Chichester found the going tough.
At 46-6 they were looking down the barrel but Justin Scott support by Harry Milward put the pressure back on the bowlers, taking the score to 89 before being we caught on the boundary.
Mudaseer Kashifi then took the initiative with some excellent shorts before falling for 24.
The opening bowlers of Montgomery and Kuntze kept the pressure on, but Anderson proved the difference between the teams.

Women 1XI secure fine victory

A dominant all-round performance saw Chichester Priory Park secure another convincing victory after winning the toss and electing to bowl first against West Wittering Women’s 1st XI.
The decision paid off immediately as Priory Park struck early.
Chasing the target, Priory Park batted with confidence.
Another fantastic team performance with contributions in all departments, highlighted by tight fielding, superb bowling and a calm, controlled batting display to finish the job.

Priory Park Produce Complete Team Performance to Defeat Ansty by Seven Wickets

Chichester Priory Park delivered a dominant all-round display to record a convincing seven-wicket victory over Ansty CC, collecting 30 valuable Sussex Cricket League points after dismissing the hosts for 127 before cruising to their target in just 21.

After losing the toss and being asked to field, Priory Park's bowlers wasted little time taking control of the contest.

Josh Kirk (26) and Leo Anderson (18) rebuilt patiently, while Lewis Evans briefly counter-attacked with a fluent 25, but Priory Park never allowed Ansty to gain any real momentum.

The standout performance came from Mike Smith, whose superb figures of 3 for 18 from seven overs, including three maidens, halted Ansty's middle order and ensured the innings never recovered.

Requiring only 128 for victory, Priory Park's reply was positive from the outset.

The foundations were then laid by Tim Wergan and Simon Hasted, who combined in an assured partnership that effectively settled the contest.

Although both departed after the target was firmly within reach, Elijah Stead ensured there would be no late drama.

The victory was built on contributions across every department.

**Player of the Match** goes to **Mike Smith**, whose outstanding spell of 3 for 18 helped dismantle the Ansty batting line-up and laid the platform for an emphatic Priory Park victory.
Chichester Priory Park CC 2nd XI pulled off one of the shocks of the season on Saturday, producing a superb all-round display to defeat league leaders Southwater 1st XI by 54 runs at Goodwood.

Entering the match 9th in the table, with Southwater sitting proudly at the summit, few would have backed Chichester to come away with maximum points.

After Southwater won the toss and elected to field, Chichester knew the importance of a steady start, in their effort to post a decent total.

There were valuable supporting contributions throughout the innings.

If the batting had laid the foundations, the bowling and fielding completed the job in outstanding fashion.

Hobkirk removed the leagues danger batsman in Mills with a sharp delivered edged to slip caught well by Heaven.

James Mayne bowled well, and Johnny heaven also claimed two wickets, producing another influential spell that left the league leaders struggling to keep pace with the required rate.

Chichester backed up their bowling with excellent work in the field, taking catches at important moments and maintaining pressure throughout.

The result represents far more than just 30 points.

Next week they play Arundel CC away in a crucial bottom of the table clash.

Match report for 3's, Chi 3rd XI visited Slinfold this week looking to get back to winning ways.

One coin toss later and Slinfold opted to make use of the good looking wicket and batted first on a warm day.

The ever dependable Kushnood and Patil opened up and between them soon accounted for both openers to leave the hole side on 20-2, enter Mustafa and DeSilver who batted steadily to rebuild and took the score to 140 before the partnership was broken by Rohit Patel in his returning spell, with some tight bowling and excellent fielding from Harry Randell & Hanif Shakoori the pressure built and regular wickets fell at both ends, Slinfold finished on 207-6, Rohit Patil the pick o the bowlers with 3-30, ably supported by Saqib Kushnood 2-42, Oscar Cliiford Brown bowled with good control and Ewan Edwards was miserly conceding only 15 runs from his 6 overs.

In reply Slinfold needed early wickets, however Alex Burrows was in no mood to comply and soon set about the opening bowling with some sumptuous drives to put on 50 with Jes Goode before the 1st wicket fell, Goode was then joined by Edwards who carried on after a cracking hundred last week and batted with poise and control to take score to 123 before the partnership was broken.

Goode bowled for 47, Edwards followed soon after to the bowling of Ranson for 44 however after a flurry of boundaries from Stu Gillet, it was left to Elliot Goode, and Harry Randell, 44 and 13 not out respectively to finish to job for a solid 6 wicket win for Chichester.

Kuntze's unbeaten half-century seals superb Priory Park comeback

Ben Kuntze produced a match-winning unbeaten 57 as Chichester Priory Park 4th XI recovered from early trouble to defeat Chippingdale 3rd XI by four wickets in Division 11 West (South) on Saturday.

After Chippingdale elected to bat, Priory Park's bowlers kept the visitors under pressure throughout the innings.

The chase began nervously as Priory Park slumped to 74 for 6, despite Todd Trundle battling hard for 34.

Showing composure beyond their years, the pair added an unbroken century for the seventh wicket, taking the game away from Chippingdale.

It was a tremendous all-round team performance, but the cool-headed partnership between Kuntze and Dutton will live longest in the memory, turning a precarious position into a deserved victory and another valuable 30 league points for Chichester.

Chichester Priory Park 1st XI celebrate 175th anniversary with emphatic nine-wicket victory

On a special day as Chichester Priory Park Cricket Club celebrated its 175th anniversary, the 1st XI produced a dominant all-round performance to secure a convincing nine-wicket victory over Chippingdale.
After winning the toss, Chichester elected to bowl first, the opening bowling partnership of Elijah Stead and Andrew Crookham set the tone with excellent control and discipline.
The pressure created by the opening pair saw Chippingdale reduced to 33-2 after the opening 10 overs, with Chi’s bowlers maintaining excellent discipline and control.
Scott produced an excellent spell in the middle overs, finishing with figures of 1-25 from 8 overs, while Owen Harris contributed with the ball and in the field, producing a superb run out before claiming his first wicket for the club, finishing with 1-30 from 9 overs.
Ben Saunders offered further resistance with a well-made 43 before also falling to Wergan who finished with figures of 6-27 off 9 overs, his first 5-wicket haul for Chichester Priory Park.
In reply, Tim Wergan and Toby Toft gave Chichester the perfect start, batting with great temperament and control while punishing any loose bowling from the Chippingdale attack.
Wergan continued to score at a good pace and was joined by Simon Hasted, with the pair producing another brilliant partnership of 67 to guide Chichester comfortably to victory.
Wergan completed a magnificent all-round performance by finishing unbeaten on 104, scoring his 100 off 93 balls, bringing up his third century of the season, as Chichester secured a dominant nine-wicket victory.
A complete performance with both bat and ball saw Chichester collect the full 30 points on a memorable day for the club.

Chichester Priory Park 2nd XI returned to winning ways with a hard-fought three-wicket victory away at Bosham, chasing down 137 inside 23 overs to claim maximum league points.

After Bosham chose to bat first, Priory Park’s bowlers kept things tight from the outset on a difficult batting wicket.
In reply, Chichester’s chase never quite went to plan as wickets fell regularly.
It wasn’t a flawless performance, but Chichester showed character with both bat and ball to secure a much needed valuable win and take all 30 points.

Chi 3XI second best to Littlehampton in the Priory Park sunshine

Chi 3’s hosted Littlehampton in the park on a warm day and had no hesitation in batting first on winning the toss.
Step up Ewan Edwards, the talented youngster batted all the way through, using his experience to build partnerships all the way down and run well between the wickets, especially with Oscar Clifford Brown who added 50 together for the 6th wicket.
In reply on a flat wicket, early wickets were key, however Littlehampton took full advantage of a wayward start and boundaries flowed, enter Oscar Clifford Brown and Toby Lewis into the attack, 16yrs and 17yrs respectively, they applied the brakes and bowled with great control to change the game, Oscar Clifford Brown snared 3 wickets in his 8 overs whist Toby Lewis conceded only 16 runs in his 8 overs whilst picking up a wicket also.
Having been their best bowler earlier in the day with 3-12 Mr Budd showed his skills and was the difference between the 2 teams.

Chichester Priory Park CC 1st XI v Middleton CC, Sussex 2nd XI

Chichester Priory Park CC produced a strong all-round performance to secure victory after posting 235 and defending it in the last over.
After losing Toft and Wergan early, Chichester rebuilt superbly through Simon Hasted and Elijah Stead.
Despite a mini-collapse through the middle and lower order, Owen Harris chipped in with a valuable 28, while Sean Dobbs added 15 to keep the scoreboard moving.
In reply, Middleton’s innings struggled to gain early momentum.
James Chester then mounted an outstanding counter-attack, smashing 123 from only 87 balls, an innings featuring 15 fours and four sixes.
However, Chichester showed fight and continued to chip away at the wickets around him.
With Chester gone, the remaining batsmen were unable to provide enough support as Middleton fell 1 run short of the total.
It was a complete team performance from Chichester Priory Park, built around the excellent partnership between Hasted and Stead.

The first game for the 3’s at the new facility at Clay Lane as they hosted Billingshurst 2’s.
Hurst win the toss and invited Chi to bat first, Goode & Shakoori opened again and ticked along to 45 before Goode fell LBW, whilst the scoreboard rotated nicely and a few batters got starts wickets fell at regular intervals.
It was left to Elliot Goode however who batted with maturity and skill at number 4 to manage the innings and take the senior role, initially working well with Chaminder G who scored 22 and then with the tail to keep the pressure on the bowling team on a warm day.
In reply the ever accurate Saqib Khushnood started well with a wicket in the first over, ripping out both the middle & leg stumps, Billingshurst struggled against an accurate attack and with Saqib & Rohit in no mood to relent the writing was soon on the wall at 49-7, the fielding and catching was good to backup to bowlers and despite some lusty blows towards the end Billingshurst were bowled out for 103, Saqib Kushnood the destroyer finishing with 5-21 from his 8 overs.

Jess Brown-Fuller MP Visits Chichester Priory Park Cricket Club

Chichester Priory Park Cricket Club was delighted to welcome Jess Brown-Fuller Member of Parliament for Chichester on Thursday 18 June to meet members, volunteers and coaches, and to hear first-hand about the opportunities and challenges facing one of the city's most active community sports clubs.
During her visit, Jess met representatives from across the club and discussed the wider debate around sports facility provision in and around Chichester.
The visit comes during a landmark year for Chichester Priory Park Cricket Club, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary.
Jess Brown-Fuller MP said, "Chichester Priory Park Cricket Club is a fantastic community asset, and it is clear that the passion and commitment of everyone involved is not matched by the facilities currently available to them.
"The council's decision to invest nearly £1 million in rebuilding the pavilion is exactly the kind of commitment these clubs need, and I welcome it.
I will continue to push for proper investment in sport infrastructure across our constituency, because these clubs are not a luxury: they are vital to the health and wellbeing of our community.
Today, the club provides cricketing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, from children aged five upwards.
The club also welcomed the recent commitment by Chichester District Council to invest more than £900,000 in the complete redevelopment of the White Pavilion at Priory Park.
The new pavilion will be built to England and Wales Cricket Board standards and will provide a significant boost not only to Chichester Priory Park Cricket Club, but also to the many other clubs, organisations and community groups that use the facilities.

"It was fantastic to welcome Jess Brown-Fuller MP to Priory Park and to share the work we do across our club and community.

1XI v Roffey

Chichester Priory Park 1st XI enjoyed their annual return to their spiritual home in Priory Park, securing a commanding eight-wicket victory over Roffey 2nd XI.
On a day neither captain wanted to lose the toss in the now customary 30-degree heat, the Chi skippers luck ran out, with Roffey choosing to bat.
In reply, Chichester made light work of the chase.
The comprehensive win secured the full 30 league points, with Roffey taking 3 points.

2XI v Goring

Chichester Priory Park 2nd XI fell to a five-wicket defeat away to Goring-by-Sea CC despite posting a competitive 210-9 from their 40 overs.
After being asked to bat first, Chichester recovered well from an early wobble thanks to an excellent 57 from Fred Huggett, who anchored the innings, before Matthew Croker shifted the momentum with a superb 70 from just 41 balls, striking 14 boundaries.
Goring's reply got off to a strong start through Benjamin Whitehead (42) before David Rogers' unbeaten 67 proved the difference.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives for Chichester, particularly the performances of Huggett and Croker with the bat.

3XI v Hamani

The 3’s visited Crawley for the 2nd time in 2 weeks, this week Himani were hosting.
In reply it was Hanif Shakoori who anchored the innings as batters came and went at regular intervals, ably supported by Ben Kuntze who showed great maturity and patience to blunt a decent bowling attack.
Wickets however continued to fall and it was at 60-6 when James Mayne joined Stu Gillett, the game hung in the balance.
Despite some fierce bowling and a few bruises, Gillett continued to score steadily whilst Mayne defended for his life !
A huge performance and 30 points sees the 3’s maintain a promotion spot in Division 7

Chichester returned home against bottom of the league Rustington cc after a wash out across the county last week.
Despite the reasonable forecast, as a result of rain throughout the week, both sides looked to bowl and have a look at what the wicket might do, with captain Mike Smith continuing his fine form with the coin and sticking the visitors in.
Rustington’s overseas after he had played a few glorious shots through the covers.
Despite being disappointed with the latter half of their fielding innings, Chichester went out to bat knowing the score was a realistic chase, especially after seeing how well the wicket had played in the first innings.
The chase came down to a last wicket stand after some destructive blows from the opener, which ultimately lead to a last over adrenaline pumping win for the home side.

Crawley Eagles 2s v Chichester Priory Park 2s

Chichester Priory travelled to Crawley for a match that the league table indicated should have been a comfortable win, however no game in this competitive league is a given.
Crawley were put into bat on a track that seen plenty of rain in the early part of the week and it was clear from early on that there was plenty in it for the bowlers as the opening pair of Alex Lowther (1 for 26) and Captain Matt Croker (2 for 15) were immediately asking questions of the Crawley batsmen.
Lowther soon had Noorsai caught behind by Goode.
More tight bowling from change bowlers Chaplin and Lewis ( 3 for 24) and excellent fielding soon had Crawley on the back foot and at 20 overs well behind par.
Uddin (34) and Piracha(68) counter attacked and Chichester's spinners wilted under the onslaught.
A total of 184 was 50 runs higher than what should have been par on a spicy pitch.
Chichester's innings got off to a poor start as Goode was caught in the gully for 0 early on, and the incoming Derry departed for 1 soon after from a leading edge on a pitch that was 2 paced and had considerable variable bounce.
McCarthy joined Vickers at the crease and the pair set about rebuilding, taking Chichester to 78-2 at the 20 overs drinks before McCarthy fell for a harsh LBW decision for 22.
Veteran Vickers had to temper his usual attacking style around a failing middle order, accepting 2s and the occasional boundary to keep with the run rate.
When he was bowled in the 32 over for a hard grafted 80 it looked out of reach but a late flurry from Lewis and Mayne took Chichester to within 20 runs before the final wicket fell.
Good availability beckons a return to winning ways in a home fixture against local rivals West Wittering next Saturday.

Chi 3’s hosted Brighton 4’s this Saturday in the park.
The pitch although green played well as normal and the opening pair of Goode & Burrows added 130 before the 1st wicket, Hubbard started with intent and the runs flowed, however once he departed runs became more difficult to find and Chi finished at 202-9 from their 40 overs.
In reply Brighton faced a miserly spell from

Guy Montgomery, 9 runs from 5 overs before injury struck, Willem Hodgson removed the top scorer in the division with a shorter and it looked positive for Chi, James Maybe put the brakes on the scoring whilst snaring a couple, and although wickets continued to fall the runs gently continued.
Brighton had a couple of batters that really dug in and with dropped catches at key moments managed to get them over the line with 2 balls to spare in what was a decent game.
We go to Barnes Green next week targeting a better session in the field.

Chichester Priory Park 4th XI secured a hard-fought 28-run victory over Broadwater 3rd XI at Hill Barn West on Saturday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Chichester found runs difficult to come by on a challenging surface.
Defending a modest target, Chichester's bowlers responded brilliantly.
Robish Hentry briefly threatened a recovery with a quick 26, but Broadwater's batting line-up struggled against Chichester's disciplined attack.
Although the batting performance left room for improvement, Chichester's determination in the field and an outstanding bowling display ensured they emerged victorious in a low-scoring contest.

CPPCC Women’s 1XI produced a superb all-round team performance to secure a convincing victory over Aldwick 2XI, bowling the opposition out for just 91 in 24.
After winning the toss and putting Aldwick into bat, CPPCC’s bowlers were relentless from the very first over.
The standout performance came from Lara Almashta, who delivered a sensational spell of 4-15 from 6 overs, including an incredible hat-trick that swung the game firmly in CPPCC’s favour.
Behind the stumps, Grace Audus and Rachel Aslett were outstanding, taking key catches and keeping standards high throughout the innings.
Chasing 92 for victory, CPPCC suffered a couple of early setbacks but showed great composure to regain control of the innings.
Useful contributions from Emily Ketelhake-Jones (11), Phoebe Hutchason (8 not out)* and an explosive 13* from just 7 balls by Grace Audus, featuring three boundaries, saw the chase completed in comfortable fashion with plenty of overs to spare.
It was a fantastic team performance, with every player contributing in some way.

Chippingdale CC 1st XI were edged out by Chichester Priory Park CC 1st XI in an entertaining contest on Saturday 23 May 2026, with Priory Park securing a composed seven-wicket victory after successfully chasing 204.
Batting first, Chippingdale posted a competitive total of 203 all out from 44.
In response, Priory Park produced a calm and measured chase, reaching 205/3 in 42.
Their top order laid an excellent foundation with intelligent running between the wickets and disciplined shot selection.
Chippingdale fought hard in the field and searched for breakthroughs, but Priory Park’s composure and depth ultimately proved decisive.

Chichester Priory Park CC Women’s 1 XI 95-2 (17.

Chichester Priory Park Women’s 1st XI got their season underway in style today against Bognor Regis CC in the first playable fixture of the year.
After losing the toss and being put into the field, Chi faced a strong start from the Bognor openers, who raced to 48 in the first five overs.
A standout performance from Chi’s bowler saw an incredible 6 wickets, helping bowl Bognor out for 94.
In reply, Chi’s openers came out positively and quickly built momentum in the chase.
The fielding effort was excellent throughout, with wicketkeeper Ruby Whitley taking 2 catches behind the stumps, while Holly Boarer also contributed 2 catches in a strong all-round display.
A fantastic team performance and the perfect way to start the season.

Chichester Priory Park CC 2XI 225-7 (40 overs) v Bosham CC 1XI 97 all out

Chichester Priory Park CC 2nd XI produced a dominant all-round performance to secure a convincing 128-run victory over Bosham CC 1st XI after posting 225-7 from their 40 overs before bowling the visitors out for just 97.

After Bosham elected to field first, Chichester made a steady start before losing Arran Goode for 8 with the score on 33.

Despite slipping to 100-5, Chichester rebuilt superbly thanks to an outstanding unbeaten innings from Ed McCarthy.

The momentum swung decisively late in the innings when Jonathan Heaven played an explosive knock of 48 from just 32 deliveries, including five fours and a six.

In reply, Chichester’s bowlers took control from the outset and never allowed Bosham to settle.

Matthew Croker capped an excellent all-round display by ripping through the middle order with 3-7 from two overs, while Stanley Mayne chipped in with two wickets of his own.

Bosham were eventually dismissed for 97 in the 31st over, sealing an emphatic victory and maximum points for Chichester Priory Park CC 2nd XI after a superb team performance with both bat and ball.

At our recent AGM James Mayne was made a Club Vice-President in recognition for his exceptional service as Junior Cricket Manager over a period of 12 years for which he continues to look for new ways to develop and grow.
James has organises the coaching sessions, and coaches, arranges matches and extra opportunities for our young members to engage with and develop their cricket, whilst recruiting new volunteer team managers and coaches to support this incredible growth.
It is not just about number growth, but there is a consistent improvement in the standard of coaching provision across the section.
In addition to the work James does at Priory Park, he runs the local Sussex Western Area League to ensure that junior players across the West Sussex get the opportunity to play competitive cricket throughout the year (both indoor - Winter and outdoor - Summer).

Building on the progress and success of the clubs coaching programmes we are pleased to announce Timmy Wergan as our new Assistant Head Coach for the Senior Section.
Timmy is an established first team player who has been playing for Chichester from the age of 8.
He graduated from Durham University earlier this year with a Sport and Exercise Science (BSc).
Timmy is also a Level 2 ECB Core Coach
